Hoffenheim attacker Adam Hlozek is set for major surgery after breaking the scaphoid bone in his right foot during training camp. The 41-times-capped Czech international had been enjoying something of a renaissance at his new Bundesliga club. After making the switch to Hoffenheim from Bayer Leverkusen last autumn, Hlozek scored 11 goals and contributed four assists in 37 competitive appearances for the Kraichgauer last season.

By far Hlozek’s most impressive Bundesliga season since he moved to the league in the summer of 2022 was even more impressive in the context that he missed two months last year. Preventive surgery on his ankle in February caused Hlozek to miss six matchdays. The 23-year-old has also missed most of his club’s training camp this summer due to metatarsal issues in the same foot that had been giving him problems.

The nature of the procedure will now sideline him indefinitely. It’s most likely the case that Hlozek will not appear for his club for the duration of the 2025 calendar year. Hlozek filled in all along the attacking line last season, working on both flanks as well as at the ten and eight positions. He scored three Europa League goals from different positions and was instrumental in helping his team avoid relegation.

This is bitter news for all of us,TSG managing director Andreas Schicker noted in a club statement “Adam fought his way back with tremendous dedication after his last injury, and now this has happened to him again. We are all behind him and will support him in every way possible until he returns to the pitch. Everyone at TSG Hoffenheim wishes Adam a speedy and full recovery.”
