It’s been a very quiet January transfer window for Barcelona. The club hasn’t made any moves since the free signing of Wojciech Szczęsny back in October.
There have only been one or two rumours coming out of the club for the winter window, with all of them seemingly for departures rather than signings.
One of the more likely rumours was the departure of centre-back Eric García, who has struggled for game time since returning from his loan at Girona.
There were rumours linking the 24-year-old with a move back to Girona as well as a move to Cesc Fabregas’ Como side, but now negotiations have taken a dramatic turn.
As per Relevo, Barcelona have decided not to sell the defender after he spoke with coach Hansi Flick recently, who sees potential in García to provide cover in midfield when needed.
This also throws another spanner in the works for any potential signings, as it is one less departure to free the way for a player like Marcus Rashford to arrive.
