Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has cast doubt over a potential Rangers move this month for Scotland international centre-back John Souttar.

Souttar has been linked with a Rangers switch for several months but it appears that, with Hearts in third and chasing a European place, Hearts will not cash in before his contract expires this summer.

“We have to keep our best players in the team,” he said on the Scarves Around the Funnel podcast.

“If that means it’s at the end of the season they go, then it’s the end of the season when they go.

“Unless there’s a crazy bid coming in, but I don’t expect there will be.”

Several Championship sides, including Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers, have shown interest in Souttar but it’s believed Rangers are currently winning the race.
