Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has approved the club's push to appoint Arne Slot as manager.

The Reds are continuing negotiations with Feyenoord to make Slot their new manager. Slot has indicated that he wants to succeed Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are confident of landing their target.

Discussions are currently focusing on a compensation package for the 45-year-old Dutchman, which will reportedly be in the region of £8.5million.

Slot led Feyenoord to victory in the Dutch Cup on Sunday and won the Eredivisie title last season. He also reached the 2022 Europa Conference League Final.

Klopp was targeting a quadruple before he leaves at the end of the season, having won the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign.

However, shock exits in both the FA Cup and the Europa League and defeat in the Merseyside derby to Everton have left Klopp with an underwhelming farewell tour.

Speaking to reporters after the defeat at Goodison Park, Van Dijk said: "I think Slot is one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment. With the way he plays and the philosophy he has, he can be a Liverpool coach.

“But I read and hear that it is far from complete. We shall see. We will focus on that next season, but that is still a long way off.'
