Bristol Rovers are on the hunt for a new manager following the recent sacking of Matt Taylor, and he may not be the only person to leave the club this winter as the January transfer window fast approaches.

The Gas have endured a difficult season in League One so far, currently finding themselves 20th in the table with the joint-third worst record in the division when it comes to goals scored per match.

The club parted company with Taylor following their 2-0 away defeat against high-flying Birmingham City this past weekend, and the hierarchy will no doubt be hoping to find a suitable replacement as soon as possible with just two points separating them from the relegation zone as things stand.

The new boss will likely see the upcoming January transfer window as an opportunity to strengthen his squad, although there could also be one or two players who wish to depart after the turn of the year.

Bristol Rovers: Luke Thomas tipped to depart Gas in January

We asked our Bristol Rovers fan pundit, Joshua Hemmings, whether he could identify a player at the club right now who may be looking for a move away in January, and one name stood out in particular.

"A player that should be looking to go in January has to be Luke Thomas, 100 per cent," Joshua told FLW.

"He's not been involved in a couple of the matchday squads out of the last few, he is playing out of position, and he is only getting a couple of minutes here and there.

"He hasn't been treated fairly, in my opinion. I would not be surprised if he was sold in January.

"He has to play. He is good enough to play in League One, and the fact he isn't (playing) is concerning.

"It is a no-brainer for me that he will be looking for a way out in January."

Luke Thomas is capable of performing in League One - his Bristol Rovers exile is baffling

As Joshua alluded to, Thomas has shown that he is capable of performing in the third tier during his time at Coventry City, Barnsley and Bristol Rovers.

Last season, the 25-year-old scored seven goals and provided eight assists in all competitions for the Gas, so it is somewhat surprising that he has been limited to just seven league starts so far this term, especially considering that he had two assists to his name before the end of August.

It will be interesting to see whether a new manager comes in and makes Thomas feel as though he is wanted at the club, but if not, it would be no surprise to see him seek a move away.

The caveat could be though that Taylor's replacement in the dugout at the Memorial Stadium - whoever that may be - may look to reintegrate Thomas into the starting 11, and also feature him higher up the pitch where his best position is.

For now though, Thomas should still be eyeing up a new club if he can find one, such has been his experience this season.
