FLW's Bristol Rovers fan pundit has given his verdict on the club's recruitment team
It’s been a disappointing start to the League One season for Bristol Rovers.
Matt Taylor has paid the cost of that poor form with his job, with the third-tier side opting for a change after their 2-0 loss to Birmingham City at the weekend.
The defeat left the club just two points clear of the relegation zone in 20th place, with many turning their attention to the massive recruitment of new players in the summer as well.
The club’s transfer strategy will be under question, with 16 players arriving in between campaigns.
When asked about the club’s recruitment staff, and their ability to identify talent, FLW’s Bristol Rovers fan pundit Joshua Hemmings claimed that they’ve done good work despite what people may think.
While he acknowledged that they’ve done a bit too much, he believes that they’ve signed players that have the talent to compete at this level.
“Contrary to what other people believe, I actually do rate the transfer recruitment team,” Hemmings told Football League World.
“Listen, we brought in 16 new players, yes that is a lot.
“Too much, in my opinion.
“But the players we have brought in, last season they proved they were fantastic players.
“I think we just signed too many starters because there was a lot of underperforming going on.
“We don’t know each other's best roles, and the manager was actually playing a lot of them out of position.
“But I think the identifying players and stuff, I do think we’ve actually got good players, it just hasn’t worked yet.
“But, last season they did great, so you can’t blame them for buying them.”
Bristol Rovers have signed so many players in the last couple of seasons, which has led to a disrupted squad and it’s no surprise that poor form has followed.
They need greater stability in their first-team squad, as they’ve now put themselves at risk of relegation.
The new manager will have to work with the players at his disposal and figure out the best way to get the most out of them.
