In an Instagram story, Granit Xhaka appears to have said goodbye to Arsenal fans ahead of the club’s final game of the season. The 30-year-old is expected to join Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

With the caption “thank you Gunners,” Xhaka listed his honours with the club and after seven years, 296 competitive games and 21 goals, it appears that his time at the club is coming to an end.

As reported earlier in the month, Bayer Leverkusen’s move for Xhaka is almost done. Only the formalities of signing the contract is still to be completed with Arsenal receiving a reported €15m for the Switzerland international.

Xhaka will reportedly sign a contract until 2027 with Bayer Leverkusen and will be playing under Xabi Alonso next season after the Spaniard confirmed he will remain head coach, despite interest from Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

A key reason for Xhaka’s return to the Bundesliga is his family. Xhaka’s wife is from the Rhine area and would like to return to Germany as the two met during his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
