He’s Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time top goalscorer. He’s England’s all-time top goalscorer. He has over 200 Premier League goals, three Premier League Golden Boots, a World Cup Golden Boot, a Young Player of the Year award and an MBE.

And yet, after all that, Harry Kane is yet to lift a major trophy in his career.

As one of the best strikers of his generation, it seems absurd that he has no silverware to his name. This has led to widespread speculation surrounding his future.

The striker turns 30 in the summer, and his contract expires in 2024. The next deal he signs will likely be the last big-money offer of his career. But what is his best option?

Manchester United

After a difficult few years, Erik ten Hag seems to have steered Manchester United back on course.

They ended their trophy drought earlier this season, remain in with a chance of two more, and are set to return to the Champions League.

But if there’s one key thing missing from the Red Devils’ squad, it’s a top-class striker. Anthony Martial is injury-prone and inconsistent, Wout Weghorst has failed to impress during his loan spell and Marcus Rashford is primarily a winger.

Many people believe that a world-class forward could be the catalyst for a title charge, much like how Robin van Persie propelled United to the league title in 2012/13.

There is an entirely separate debate over whether it’s in United’s best interests to sign a nearly-30-year-old player for a nine-figure sum to join an already ageing squad when there are younger options available. But that can wait for another day. What can Man United do for Kane?

Firstly, there’s little doubt that he’d have a better shot at major honours at Old Trafford than with Tottenham. Ten Hag has got his side heading in the right direction, while Spurs are a complete mess.

And, of course, staying in the Premier League allows him a chance at breaking Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goal record.

Kane needs 55 more to surpass the former Newcastle United man. If he can reach this, he will go down as one of the league’s greatest-ever forwards, regardless of whether he wins a trophy.

However, there is still no guarantee of silverware at Man United. February’s Carabao Cup triumph was their first since 2017, and it’s been ten years since they last won a league title.

Bayern Munich

In a shock twist, Bayern Munich’s genius strategy of selling one of the best strikers in the world and not replacing him with another striker has somewhat backfired.

Last night, they were eliminated from the Champions League by Manchester City, having spurned several chances across the tie. They could still end the season empty-handed.

The Bavarians are known admirers of the England captain. And at the Allianz Arena, he’d get a guarantee of domestic trophies, as well as a shot at the Champions League.

Additionally, he’d likely be the main man for the Bundesliga giants. If he could score 40 goals and win the Champions League with Bayern, he could get himself in with a shout of the Ballon d’Or.

However, that would all come with a price. He’d have to sacrifice his chance at Shearer’s record, which he’s been working towards for the last nine years.

Domestic trophies at Bayern are a formality. In terms of his legacy, the Premier League goal record would do far more than a Bundesliga title and a DFB Pokal.

The Champions League and the Ballon d’Or could make a switch to Germany worth it, but that’s a huge gamble to take.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain offer many of the strengths and weaknesses that Bayern do.

They’re a dead cert for domestic trophies and are expected to compete for the Champions League every year. But again, he’d have to give up his chase for Shearer’s record.

At the Parc des Princes, Kane would have the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest superstars in the world.

If just two of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar stay, the Englishman will never get the chance to play in a better frontline.

While this has its obvious advantages, he wouldn’t be the standout. As a result, his chances of major individual awards would be hindered.

Tottenham Hotspur

Amid the rumours of Kane’s exit, Tottenham owner Daniel Levy has weighed in. The businessman said (via Sky Sports): “Kane can absolutely win a trophy at Spurs.

“But being a legend is also important. The fact that he’s top scorer of Tottenham Hotspur – he’s making history. I hope one day that there is a statue of Harry Kane outside our stadium.”

There is some truth to this. In north London, he’ll get a level of adulation that is extremely rare in football. Anywhere else, he’ll be just another player.

If he does win a trophy at Spurs, it will mean far more to him than anything he could get anywhere else.

But that is a huge ‘if’. And if he retires without silverware, it will be a major blot on his career. Not to mention, there’s no guarantee of Champions League football with Spurs.

Perhaps his best option would be to see out his contract at the Lilywhites. It would give him one last chance at winning something with Tottenham, and if it doesn’t work, he won’t be priced out of a move.

And in a year’s time, new doors may have opened. Manchester City and Real Madrid could also be looking for a new striker in 2024.

If Kane is available on a free transfer, he could walk into any club he wants.
