Throughout the summer transfer window so far, FC Barcelona have been looking for a new left-winger. Despite the incredible performances of Raphinha last season, Hansi Flick’s side wants a dynamic option as well. Keeping that in mind, Barcelona have been looking for players who excel independently as well.

One player who seemed to have become their priority target due to these requirements was Nico Williams. A dynamic player who excels in terms of direct confrontations, the Athletic Club star seemed to tick all the boxes that Barcelona needed.
Unfortunately, that operation did not come to fruition and the club was unable to acquire his signing. Instead, he renewed his contract with Athletic Club and the reported reasoning behind it was Barça’s inability to give him the guarantees he wanted.
However, Barcelona as an institution has always thrived when their own youngsters have risen to the occasion. Fortunately for the Catalan giants, they have a rather talented left-winger just waiting in the reserves to get his opportunity with the first-team, even as the club continues to look for an alternative option to Nico Williams outside the club.

As highlighted by SPORT, 18-year-old Jan Virgili has proven himself to be quite the talent already through his performances in the reserve team. In fact, his performances clearly impressed Hansi Flick as the German coach reportedly gave him certain guarantees regarding this year’s preseason tour.
He originally played a key role in helping the Barcelona Juvenil side in winning a treble. They won all three major trophies, including the UEFA Youth League, and his participation was vital across all competitions. Valued at €3 million by Transfermarkt, he also later helped Barcelona Atletic as well.
Reportedly new to the competitive Primera RFEF, the young winger still managed to make a mark. By scoring four goals and providing two assists, he showcased a clear ability to perform even at advanced levels where he has no prior experience. Moreover, he was also a standout performer for Spain at the Under-19 European Championship.
Moreover, he possesses a unique profile that could benefit Hansi Flick’s Barcelona first team as well. Able to operate effectively on both wings despite naturally being a left-winger, Virgili can both cut inside to create danger himself or even stay out wide to open up spaces for his teammates.
With great dynamism, explosive speed, impressive footwork, and an eye for goal, the 18-year-old Barcelona pearl offers a lot of benefits. Moreover, with Flick’s commitment to giving him opportunities in the upcoming preseason tour, he could very well make a name for himself.
Fortunately, he is not the only player who can offer such a unique and impactful profile to the first team. In fact, a previous report highlighted a handful of young pearls who could offer a profile that the first team is currently looking for.
