Hansi Flick wants to speed up five player exits from Barcelona – report

Barcelona are working hard to return to the 1:1 Fair Play rule this summer and thus open a world of opportunities in terms of new signings. After all, the lack of registration guarantees has seen them lose out on big targets and is an area of serious concern.

The sales of Pablo Torre, Ansu Fati, Clement Lenglet and Alex Valle, on that front, have proven invaluable as they all bring the club closer to the much-awaited financial stability. There is, however, still a need for bigger sales, especially ahead of pre-season.

As relayed by SPORT, Hansi Flick is pushing for the board to complete as many as five more sales before the pre-season tour starts so that he can take with him more young players who deserve a chance while leaving out the deadwood.

Not all, however, are easy for Joan Laporta and Co. to pull off.

Five fated names

As brought to light by the outlet, Flick is prioritising the departures of Oriol Romeu and Inaki Pena first, followed by that of Pau Victor.

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and a centre-back are also on the exit list, albeit in more complicated circumstances.

Romeu, for starters, is a player to whom Barcelona have clearly communicated a lack of interest to continue working together.

The veteran is not close to Flick’s plans, and since he has no offers on his table yet, the club are willing to terminate his contract and pay off the final year on his deal. Girona and other La Liga clubs could then pounce on his availability.

The situation with Inaki Pena, who now has no future at the club, is also very similar. While the club were initially looking for a transfer for the youngster’s final contractual season, his high salary has complicated matters.

Barcelona, thus, are willing to pay a part of his salary and virtually terminate his contract so he can leave the club. Notably, he has attracted interest from clubs overseas, and a resolution is imminent.

Pau Victor’s situation is slightly trickier because the manager is not completely against the youngster staying and was happy with his contributions last season.

If a new winger arrives, Victor will leave and the Catalans command €5 million for 50% of his rights or €10 million for a complete transfer.

In the case of Ter Stegen, the goalkeeper is adamant on staying at the club and has three years left on his deal, complicating the matter.

Barcelona, however, are dead against paying off the three years, and it remains to be seen what comes of his future and preseason participation in the coming days.

The final player departure being contemplated is that of a centre-back. With Ronald Araujo’s sale almost ruled out at this point, Andreas Christensen gains prominence as a potential player to leave.

The Dane, however, insists on staying at Barcelona and will likely travel with the team to Asia for the pre-season tour. The club hope that he will eventually cave in and accept a departure, although he has shown no signs of leaning that way yet.
