Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich, back to Borussia Dortmund, and now back to Bayern Munich?

Mario Götze remains a free agent even as the 2020/21 season clicks into gear around Europe but he might not be for much longer.

According to SportBILD, Hansi Flick is the driving force as Bayern consider re-signing the 28-year-old.

The report claims Flick is eager to see Götze re-join the treble winners to strengthen Bayern’s squad. Götze could reasonably provide back up for Thomas Müller or even Robert Lewandowski up front.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference for Thursday night’s Super Cup final against Sevilla, the man in charge suggested that a shock return isn’t on the cards.

Götze fell out of favour in Dortmund last season as he failed to agree a new contract with the Bundesliga giants. Before then, though, Lucien Favre tended to field the World Cup winner up front, making the most of his ability to hold onto possession and combine well with his team-mates.

A move to Bayern would be a surprise, with few clubs around Europe showing serious interest and Götze widely considered way past his best.

That could play right into Bayern’s hands if they do support Flick and follow up with an offer.
