Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has this week urged Lamine Yamal to follow in the footsteps of another member of his attacking ranks, amid his ongoing development.

The player in question? Raphinha.

Wide-man Raphinha is for his part of course fresh off bringing to a close a spectacular campaign.

Looking rejuvenated in the all-action setup of new boss Hansi Flick, the Brazilian racked up a remarkable 59 direct goal contributions in 57 appearances across all competitions.

Such production is a testament to Raphinha’s will and sheer commitment, after what, all told, had been a largely disappointing stint in Barcelona colours through the summer of 2024.

And it is such traits which the aforementioned Hansi Flick is eager for teammate and breakthrough sensation Lamine Yamal to learn from.

Speaking in an interview with Barca’s official magazine, as cited by Diario Sport, this week, Blaugrana boss Flick explained:

“I say it often: he’s a genius. And he’s 17 years old, we have to help him. So far everything is fine. If he wants to play the next 15 years at the highest level he needs to train very well and prepare mentally as well. He’s smart. Not everything is about enjoyment, you also have to work. And players with their talent must do it. He has good examples in the team, such as Raphinha, who also trusts him a lot.”
