Hansi Flick has extensively experimented with the No. 10 position so far this season, with as many as four players given a chance to prove their worth in just two official games.
Fermin Lopez started against Mallorca, and Raphinha did in the same position against Levante. As substitutes, Gavi and Dani Olmo have had their chances to prove their worth in the position as well.
While Flick is indeed bestowed with great options in the attacking midfield, AS reveals that he has a clear favourite among them, and it is none other than Dani Olmo.
Olmo arrived as Barcelona’s blockbuster signing last summer and was expected to instantly add an extra element of threat to the Catalan attack. Indeed, he did deliver what was expected of him, albeit not with the frequency that was anticipated.

The Spanish midfielder did not participate as much as Flick would have liked owing to his regular fitness setbacks and registration issues. He played just 39 games for Barcelona over the course of the campaign and had 19 goal contributions to show.
Flick has massive expectations for Olmo for the 2025-26 season and sees the midfielder to be a lethal weapon for the club. The wait, however, is for him to recover his best version both in terms of form and fitness.
Olmo complained of a minor muscular strain in pre-season, and Flick thus decided to ease him into action without direct starts.
He will thus return as a starter once the coach is certain that there is no physical risk, and will continue to be the de facto starter as long as he is fit.
It was the 27-year-old whose entry turned the tide in Barcelona’s latest comeback win over Levante, and it is clear that he is the best player in the squad in that position. His fitness, thus, is the manager’s primary concern and focus.
