Barcelona will soon begin their pre-season tour of the USA and now that Euro 2024 and Copa America are both over, the team from Catalonia will now intensify their market activities, claims a report from Mundo Deportivo.

The team has been planning these moves for several months, and now, with the championships behind them, it is time to put those plans into action.

In that regard, new manager Hansi Flick is eager to finalise the squad as soon as possible and with the clock ticking, the window for making significant moves is narrowing.

However, sources within Barcelona suggest that no major announcements are expected in the immediate future.

What can we expect from Barcelona?

It is no secret that Barcelona’s main targets to bolster the team include a winger, with Nico Williams being a prime candidate, and a midfielder, with Mikel Merino currently topping the list.

Another aspect of the transfer strategy involves players who were on loan last season, such as Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo, who is contracted with Manchester City, might even feature in the pre-season match against Barcelona. The club is keen to secure another loan deal for him.

The most straightforward target appears to be Nico. Barcelona aim to secure his services by activating his release clause from Athletic Club.

Can Barcelona achieve their targets?

The situation with the player is quite clear-cut: Barcelona must pay his release clause to Athletic Club, who are unwilling to negotiate or provide payment flexibility.

Consequently, this transfer hinges on Barcelona’s ability to generate the necessary financial resources. The club needs to close the 2023-24 season with a profit to comply with financial regulations and register new players.

Similarly, there has been no formal offer made to Real Sociedad for Merino. Merino, who has one year left on his contract with Real Sociedad, is one of the top choices being considered by Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco.

The club is waiting for clearance regarding La Liga’s economic fair play rules before making any moves.

Currently, Barcelona are still struggling with financial fair play restrictions and despite the pressing need to finalise the squad before La Liga kicks off, no immediate announcements regarding commercial agreements or squad overhauls are anticipated.
