Hansi Flick admits big-name Barcelona star is not guaranteed of game time | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has this week admitted that he ‘cannot make any promises’ when it comes to Marc-André ter Stegen’s place in his plans moving forward.

Goalkeeper Ter Stegen is for his part of course sidelined long-term at present.

After being forced to undergo back surgery this summer, the German has been ruled out for what is expected to be at least four months.

Even prior to as much, though, Ter Stegen had lost his place in Barcelona’s XI.

After Wojciech Szczęsny was favoured to the 33-year-old over the final weeks of last season, summer signing Joan García has since knocked Barca’s long-time no.1 yet further down the pecking order between the posts.

Interviewed by German outlet BILD after being named Coach of the Year by the publication this week, Hansi Flick, in turn, was inevitably drawn on Ter Stegen’s prospects for the season ahead.

And the Blaugrana’s headmaster, as cited by Esport3, went on to admit:

“Will Ter Stegen get minutes when he returns from injury? I cannot make any promises…”
