Hakimi set to miss PSG’s league clash with Lille | OneFootball

Achraf Hakimi will sit out Paris Saint-Germain’s league tie against LOSC Lille on Sunday after suffering a thigh problem in the Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

According to Le Parisien, the 24-year-old felt pain in his thigh and PSG boss Christophe Galtier felt it necessary not to escalate the problem any further.

The former Real Madrid man was replaced by Presnel Kimpembe for the second half, with Marquinhos slotting in at right back.

PSG lost the game after Kingsley Coman broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. The Frenchman chose not to celebrate as a sign of respect to the club where he began his footballing career.

Having lost the first-leg clash, PSG will head into the weekend’s meeting with Lille on the back of a worrying three-game losing streak.

The Ligue 1 champions were initially knocked out of the Coupe de France by title hopefuls Olympique Marseille before seeing their comfortable eight-point lead at the top of the table reduced following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to AS Monaco.

Galtier’s side have been ravaged by injuries recently. Several first-team players, including star forwards Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, have only just returned from lay-offs.

Mbappe, who has missed two weeks of action, only returned as a second-half substitute in the Bayern game and could have stolen a point for his team but for a VAR offside call.

Messi also missed the defeat to Monaco through injury, with Neymar and Hugo Ekitike leading the line for PSG.

Hakimi has also had his fair share of injury problems, and Galtier will have to find a way to win against Paulo Fonseca’s side without his star right back.

With summer signing Nordi Mukiele also injured, Galtier could turn to third-choice right back Timothee Pembele on Sunday.

There is an increased sense of optimism that the team can end their losing streak this weekend, especially with the star forward trio now available.

But Lille are no pushovers and will enter the game off the back of a three-game unbeaten run.
