Guatemala defeats Guadeloupe, advances to Quarterfinals

HOUSTON – The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup continued with Guatemala earning a 3-2 win against Guadeloupe in Group C on Tuesday at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, USA.
Guatemala opened the scoring in the 13’, with José Pinto converting from the penalty spot.
Olger Escobar doubled the lead for Los Chapines in the 29’ with a chipped finish from inside the box. Rubio Rubin registered the assist on the play.
Ange-Freddy Plumain shortened the deficit in the 50’, scoring for Guadeloupe from the penalty spot.
Rubin got his name onto the scoresheet in the 70’ to reestablish Guatemala’s two-goal lead with a strike from close range.
Matthias Phaëton scored Guadeloupe’s second goal in the match in the 78’, finding the back of the net with a right-footed curler from the left end of the box.
With the win, Guatemala reached six points to finish in second place in Group C. Los Chapines will meet the first-place finisher from Group B in the Quarterfinals.
Guadeloupe conclude its participation in the 2025 edition with a 0-0-3 record.
