Lazio are prepared to increase their offer for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood to €25m, but face strong competition from Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympique Marseille.

While Juventus had shown some interest, the Biancocelesti now appear to be the most determined to sign Greenwood after his loan experience with Getafe.

The asking price of €50m is unrealistic and well beyond Lazio’s reach, but Sportitalia report that they are prepared to increase their proposal to €25m plus a large percentage of the sell-on fee.

That could reach 40 or even 50 per cent, bolstering their chances of getting a deal over the line.

However, Sky Sport Italia claim that there is now strong competition for Greenwood’s signature from Olympique Marseille, who just hired coach De Zerbi.

The Ligue 1 side are also in advanced negotiations with Inter for Argentina international Valentin Carboni.

Greenwood is only 22 years old and has one senior cap for England, but his career has been inevitably tainted by the charges of domestic abuse and controlling behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend.

Manchester United’s own players and staff were reportedly against the idea of welcoming him back to Old Trafford, so there is more than one reason why the club is eager to make a sale.
