The Lionesses were two up in 20 minutes, as Russo netted when Mead’s shot was parried into her path and after hitting the post, Clinton headed home Lauren Hemp’s cross.

Virginia Kirchberger replied with a header from a corner but the two-goal lead was restored before the break as Mead found the net.

Russo’s second came after Georgia Stanway intercepted a loose pass, Jess Carter was next to score following Lotte Wubben-Moy’s header at a corner kick.

Kirchberger netted a second header for Austria, quickly followed by Mead’s second on the rebound from a Lauren James strike onto the post.

Rachel Daly got through one-on-one with Manuela Zinsberger to fire in England’s seventh of the night.

Next up for the Lionesses at the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Cadiz are Italy, on Tuesday 27 February at 5pm, with live broadcast on ITV4.
