Paciencia originally joined Eintracht in July 2018, and went out on loan for the 2020/21 season to FC Schalke 04. The 28-year-old Portuguese forward made 86 appearances in all competitions for SGE, scoring 20 goals and recording eight assists. Fans will fondly remember his header to reduce the deficit to 4-2 in the first leg of the quarter-final of the UEFA Europa League in April 2019 away to Benfica, which ended up being crucial to the Eagles making it through to the semis. In November 2019, our number 39 made his full debut for Portugal.

Paciencia is now heading off to pastures new to join Spanish Primera Liga side Celta Vigo, with a Europa League winner’s medal in his baggage, having also scored two goals during the group stage of the campaign.

“Goncalo Paciencia always put the team first, and was invariably good for an important goal coming off the bench,” said board member for sport Markus Krösche. “He is now looking to get more regular playing time, which is something that we cannot guarantee him, so we put our heads together to find the right solution for him, and that’s what we’ve done. Gonca will long be remembered here at Eintracht Frankfurt as a real team player.”
