Glasgow City have announced the signing of attacking midfielder Carlee Giammona from Mexican side CF Monterrey.
The 23-year-old has swapped the Liga MX Femenil for the SWPL 1. She joins Leanne Ross’ side on an 18 month deal.
The USA youth international has previously represented her country at both U16 and U18 level. Giammona also helped CF Monterrey reach the semi-finals of last season’s Apertura. The Rayados were dealt a narrow 1-0 defeat by eventual title winners UANL Tigres. On joining Glasgow City this winter, Giammona said: “I’m super excited to continue the current season with the team and really happy to be part of the club. After doing my research, I found Glasgow City was an amazing club so it makes a great step for me.”
Glasgow City head coach Ross said of her latest signing: “In Carlee, we have signed a powerful and athletic attacking midfield player with that all important eye for goal. Her game intelligence to find pockets of space as well as her awareness to get turned and drive forward or find defence splitting passes fits perfectly with the attacking style of football we play at Glasgow City FC.“Her technical and physical attributes will without doubt strengthen our squad and add to the attacking options available for the remainder of this season and beyond. I am delighted to welcome Carlee to Glasgow City and very much look forward to working with her during this next step in her career.”Glasgow City are the reigning SWPL 1 champions but currently sit third in the table on 44 points. They are eight points adrift of current leaders Rangers, who lead the pack with 52 points.
