Girona, of course, marked their return to action a short time ago.

Amid a shaky stretch of recent form, which culminated in a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Real Madrid last time out, the Catalans made the trip to San Mamés, eyeing a bounce-back result at the expense of Athletic Club.

When all was said and done, however, the Blanquivermells’ struggles only continued.

As much came by way of an eventual 3-2 defeat, which saw individual errors prove costly once more.

This means that Girona have now slipped a full six points off the pace of table-topping Real Madrid in the La Liga standings, owing to just one win in their last five across all competitions.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle on Monday, boss Míchel, in turn, was questioned on the problems facing his side at present, as well as their aims for the remainder of the term.

And, before reiterating that Girona do not intend to alter their fluid style of play, the Spanish tactician confirmed that he is hopeful of an eventual top-4 finish come the season’s close:

“In San Mamés, everyone has suffered. We knew it was going to be a tough game. Of the [last] three games without winning, Real Madrid’s was the day when we were least involved. We are still in a privileged position. I’m not saying that we are a Champions League team, but we are going to be in that fight.

“Individual mistakes belong to the team. We have a certain way of playing. I ask Aleix to take the ball out . We have sinned on some occasions of too much passing back, in the second goal above all. Our way of playing has led us to come here to fight for the top positions, we are going to continue working so that the successes count more in our favor than those errors.”
