Billy Gilmour has reportedly been given the all-clear by Brighton and Hove Albion to join Napoli, after the clubs agreed a new deal.

The transfer had been effectively done over the last week, only to collapse when his replacement Matt O’Riley sustained a serious injury just nine minutes into his debut.

This left the Seagulls needing to find another alternative in midfield and Napoli were frustrated over the 23-year-old’s status.

Napoli and Gilmour determined to make move stick

They had turned towards Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus, but Antonio Conte was adamant he wanted the Scotland international, especially after securing Scott McTominay from Manchester United.

Now Sportitalia, Matteo Moretto and more claim Gilmour has been given the all-clear to fly out to Italy and complete the deadline day transfer.

It is expected to cost around €15m plus bonuses, which were increased after the Partenopei became confident they could sell Victor Osimhen to Al-Ahli or Chelsea.

There were even some suggestions that Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus could be Gilmour’s replacement at Brighton.
