Georges Mikautadze’s (23) impending arrival at Olympique Lyonnais is expected to force January signing Gift Orban (21) out of the club, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Nigerian forward Orban only joined Lyon in a €14m deal from KAA Gent in January, however, his career with Les Gones could be short-lived. He netted just three goals in 16 appearances for OL, however, many of his appearances came from the bench and it was appreciated that he was an investment for the future.
However, OL now look set to complete the signing of Mikautadze from FC Metz. Les Gones have seemingly hijacked AS Monaco’s move for the Georgia international. His arrival will severely hamper Orban’s chances of featuring, especially given Alexandre Lacazette’s decision to see out the final year of his contract.
As a result, L’Équipe understands that Orban is likely to leave Lyon this summer. The striker, whose contract runs until 2028, is attracting interest, both within France but also from abroad.
