Ajax have reportedly entered a transfer battle with River Plate to sign Argentinos Juniors left-back Román Vega (21).
Reported by Argentinian journalist Sebastián Srur, and published further by VoetbalPrimeur, it is believed that Vega’s current employer now have two bids of 5.5 million euros on the table.
The 21-year-old Argentinian would come to strengthen the left wing to compensate for the potential departure of Jorrel Hato and/or Owen Wijndal. That said, River Plate are also keen admirers and look to tempt the defender into a domestic transfer.
River Plate aim to close the deal this week. Should Argentinos Juniors accept the €5.5 million bid, it will be up to the player to decide where his future lies. However, Srur expects €6 million to be the final fee. The Argentine’s club also wants to retain 20 per cent of the transfer rights. Bologna pulled out at an earlier stage due to the size of the transfer fee.
Vega’s current contract runs until the end of 2026. The left-back has played 12 official matches so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. His playing style and development have quickly been compared former Ajax player Nicolás Tagliafico back in his home country, confirming his status as a talent.
