The Women’s World Cup has produced shocks aplenty so far this summer and another major one could be on the way.
Germany needed a win to be sure of their place in the last 16 but got off to the worst possible start against bottom of the table South Korea.
The Asian Cup finalists were without a point – or even a goal – in their opening two games but took a fifth minute lead through Cho So-hyun, who finished calmly after being played through one-on-one.
However, Germany relied on a familiar threat to equalise shortly before half-time in Brisbane as Alexandra Popp headed home shortly before half-time to keep them in contention.
But there was another big twist to follow in Group H’s other game as Morocco took the lead against Colombia shortly before the interval – a goal which means that Germany must score again to avoid elimination.
Will they join Brazil, Italy, Canada and China in exiting early?
