German legend praises Hansi Flick’s Barcelona – ‘Could begin an era’ | OneFootball

At this point in the season, pundits across the world have Barcelona as the favourite to take home the Copa del Rey and La Liga and one of the best-placed teams to seal the UEFA Champions League as well.

The turnaround from the club in under a year with Hansi Flick is truly sensational and praiseworthy, for the new coach has not only extracted the most from the players he has but got them working well as a unit.

Flick’s work at Barcelona has not gone unnoticed and has attracted praise from far and wide. Now, one of his country’s top legends has come out to give his two cents.

Flick’s system praised

Speaking to the media in a recent interview, German legend Lothar Matthaus showered huge praise on Hansi Flick’s Barcelona and the potential this young team carries.

“They could begin an era like the one that Barça has already lived,” he began, comparing them with the greatest Barcelona teams to have ever played.

Elaborating on what made the young core of players under Flick special, the former Ballon d’Or winner attributed it to their project.

“Their project occupies a predominant position in Europe,” he noted.

Matthaus then went on to praise the Barcelona manager for the change he has brought to Catalonia and the style of play he is propagating.

“He is representing the style that already made Barça famous. Hansi has always played attractive football, it’s impressive,” stated Matthaus.

So far this season, Barcelona have been unstoppable in the final third and their recent 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund all but seals the team’s place in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League.

Flick’s men will next be in action at the weekend against Leganes in what will be a massive chance to improve their lead at the top.
