Ekstraklasa club Górnik Zabrze announced the signing of German goalkeeper Kevin Broll on Monday. The 26-year-old shot stopper joins on a one-year contract from Dynamo Dresden.

Broll was a part of the Dresden team which was relegated from the 2.Bundesliga last season, by virtue of a play-off defeat to 1.FC Kaiserslautern. He played 33 times in all competitions for the club last season.

The move to Poland brings Broll’s three-year stint at Dynamo to an end. Prior to joining the club from Saxony, he tended goal for Sonnenhof Großaspach and FV Homburg.

Poland was an obvious choice for Broll to continue his career, given his Polish roots. His parents, Krzysztof and Karina, emigrated from the country to Germany before his birth. He will be hoping to repeat the achievement of his maternal grandfather, Artur Janus, who was a part of the Stal Mielec side which won the 1972/73 Polish Championship, and played in the following season’s European Cup against Yugoslavian champions Crvena Zvezda.
