Barcelona centre-back Gerard Piqué is reportedly planning to retire at the end of next season.

The legendary defender, who has appeared almost 500 times for the club, supposedly wants to retire in the summer of 2021 before embarking on a campaign to become Barcelona president.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who have ‘revealed’ the “top secret” plans on Friday.

Piqué, 31, has consistently reiterated his desire to one day become Barcelona president and there are elections in 2021.

Alongside his playing career, the former Spain defender in enrolled in Havard University, where he is pursuing a master’s degree in business.

Current Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is expected to run again in 2021.

The report also says Piqué would like to bring in former team-mates, with a plan to appoint Carles Puyol as the club’s technical director. Midfield maestros Xavi and Andrés Iniesta are earmarked for coaching roles.
