Watford have confirmed that Gerard Deulofeu will be out for six to nine months after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.
Deulofeu was stretchered off during Sunday’s incredible 3-0 win against Liverpool, following an innocuous tangle of legs with Virgil van Dijk.
The injury comes as a huge blow to the 25-year-old who was beginning to perform with great consistency.
“Unfortunately for us, the scans have shown that he (Deulofeu) will probably the rest of the season,” Pearson told reporters.
“It’s a torn cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which is really bad news because he has been such an important player for us.
“Gerry is a really good lad as well. I think it’s upsetting for the players when one of your colleagues gets an injury like that during a game.
“But we’ll have to cope. It’s important we look forward with a positive mentality but it’s certainly not good news for us.”
Watford currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, just ahead of Bournemouth on goal difference.
