Gent have announced the signing of Keegan Jelacic from Perth Glory on a contract until 2026. The 20-year-old midfielder, who is eligible for both New Zealand and Australia, is currently in France playing for the Australian U23 side in the well renowned Toulon tournament. The Australian side will face Qatar, Togo and Mexico in France next month.

Jelacic came through at the Brisbane Roar academy, but only managed to play two games for the senior side. He left the side to join Olympic FC on a free transfer in December 2021. Jelacic played one season with the side, scoring nine goals in 11 games. He moved to Perth Glory in the summer of 2022 and managed 22 games, scoring twice.

The 20-year-old can play centrally, as well as slightly further forward in an attacking midfield role. Gent are looking forward to bringing a versatile young talent to the side, claiming that the midfielder can also play wide left or upfront.

The Buffaloes are expected to add another central midfielder in Pieter Gerkens over the coming weeks, with the former Anderlecht man joining from Antwerp on a free.
