Gent set to benefit if Everton complete signing of Lyon winger | OneFootball

Gent will be hoping that Everton are able to complete the signing of young Belgian winger Malick Fofana this summer. The now 20-year-old looks set to leave French football and join Premier League side Everton, with the clubs in advanced talks. As reported by HLN, Gent are entitled to 20% of the sale.

With no European football this season, Gent are in foreign territory. The side have become accustomed to enjoying continental football every season, but now Ivan Leko must bring European football back to the club with a slightly reduced budget. The side have sold a few players this summer, but 20% from the transfer of Fofana would be very welcome. Given that Lyon spent €17m to sign Fofana back in January 2024, the deal with Everton should be of a higher value.

Gent began their season with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sint Truiden. They will hope that, by the end of the window, Leko has a squad he is happy with that can compete for the top six and the European tickets.
