AC Milan are aiming to build for the future, and they are working on some renewals after Tijjani Reijnders recently committed himself.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write how Milan have the obligation to become competitive again in Italy and in Europe from next season, something that the club president Paolo Scaroni admitted earlier today.

The good news is that Reijnders is here to stay, the man with 13 goals this season and counting. His contract deadline was moved forward by two seasons, from 2028 to the summer of 2030, with a pay rise to €3.5m net per year. A fitting reward for one of the league’s best players.

The next in line

At a big club like Milan, after his experiences at Dortmund and Chelsea, Christian Pulisic has finally established himself. With Reijnders, he is the only Rossoneri player who can say he has a guaranteed permanent position even in the new era.

Captain America is a valuable attacking wildcard: from right winger to attacking midfielder, as in tonight’s match against Fiorentina. His numbers (40 games, 15 goals, 9 assists this season) also push in favour of a contract renewal.

Arriving from London in the summer of 2023, the club want to extend his deal until June 2029. The agreement is now done, the official announcement and the ritual celebrations are missing. A new salary is also ready for him: €5m net per year (from €4m).

The French duo

There is a more imminent deadline and it concerns two of the French players in the team, the most prominent: Theo Hernandez and Maignan. The evaluations are also proceeding in parallel: the performances of both have led to a clear slowdown on the hypothesis of an extension.

For Theo, the chances have ‘effectively disappeared’. He will not renew and it is unlikely that his experience with the Rossoneri will go beyond next summer. If no buyers are found, there is the risk of a free release in a year.

It is a risk that the club is willing to take in order not to satisfy his huge requests. Maignan is under observation: the new, richer contract must be deserved on the pitch, with worthy matches. Otherwise it will be time for a renewal in goal too.
