It was a hard-fought affair at Stadio Bentegodi on Friday evening but AC Milan eventually managed to break the deadlock. Tijjani Reijnders was the big hero in that sense, but he wasn’t the only key player in the clash for the Rossoneri.

Reijnders opened the scoring in the second half with a lovely strike into the top corner of the net, but the assist by Youssouf Fofana was equally as good. It’s no surprise, therefore, that Gazzetta dello Sport (see photo below) has named the Frenchman the MOTM.

In addition to the assist, Fofana took a proper beating in midfield as he frustrated the Verona players with his control in possession. The newspaper thus gave him a rating of 7/10 as well as the MOTM title, given that the game was fundamentally won in the midfield battle.

The worst player, meanwhile, was Samuel Chukwueze with a rating of 5/10. He was also the worst in our player ratings as he had zero impact on the right flank, despite several opportunities to show his qualities 1v1.

Paulo Fonseca did what he could do, given the absences and the injury of Leao, and received a 6/10 from the newspaper. However, it’s clear that improvements are needed on all fronts for the next games.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s ratings

7: Youssouf Fofana, Alex Jimenez, Tijjani Reijnders.

6.5: Matteo Gabbia, Malick Thiaw.

6: Mike Maignan, Emerson Royal, Filippo Terracciano, Davide Calabria.

5: Samuel Chukwueze, Rafael Leao, Tammy Abraham, Theo Hernandez.
