AC Milan sent a number of young players out on loan who they hope can follow the example set by a player like Tommaso Pobega, who had four loan spells before establishing himself in the first team.

La Gazzetta dello Sport start their recap of how the loanees are getting on by looking at Lorenzo Colombo, who was sent to Lecce for a season for some experience in Serie A. He has two goals in seven games: one in the Coppa Italia and the other in the league against Napoli. He also scored against Japan for Italy U21s yesterday with a stunning volley.

The 20-year-old Colombo is contracted until 2023 and was sent to Lecce on a season-long loan with an option to buy plus a buy-back in Milan’s favour. Last year he scored 6 goals in 34 games for SPAL in Serie B – all in the first half of the season – so Milan will study his progress.

Milan have eight other players on loan including Daniel Maldini at Spezia. After his first goal for them in the Coppa Italia at the same ground where he scored his first goal for the Rossoneri, he has not yet played in Serie A due to an injury. At Spezia there is also Mattia Caldara, on loan with an option to buy, and has played four games so far.

Marco Nasti is on loan at Cosenza, fresh from an 18-goal year with the Primavera, but he hasn’t managed to debut yet. Marco Brescianini on the other hand – also at Cosenza – has made six appearances and has a goal.

The other loans are divided between the Serie C and abroad. In Olbia there is Gabriele Bellodi, a centre-back who has five starts so far this season, while at Alessandria there is Antonio Mionic who has four appearances.

Emil Roback went to play in Denmark, at Nordsjælland, where the assistant coach is Michael Essien. Closing the list is Luan Capanni, 22, who is at Estrela in the Portuguese second division. Last year he scored 4 goals with Viterbese.
