AC Milan are waiting for news from Portugal regarding the fate of Sergio Conceicao, and in the meantime they are keeping some alternative options open.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), Milan are hoping to learn that Conceicao will leave Porto after seven seasons with the club in favour of a return to Italy, with a decisive meeting set to take place in the next 48 hours.

However, it still cannot be ruled out that the meeting with Andre Villas-Boas – the new Porto president – goes well and that he receives the assurances required to continue his spell there, so there are other names still on the list.

Paulo Fonseca for example has been in the running since the process was opened and he would like to coach Milan. The former Roma boss has two proposals on the table, on the one hand Lille who would like to extend his contract expiring in June and on the other Marseille who are pushing heavily for him.

Before deciding, the Portuguese head coach is waiting for a call from Milan. He has always been in the front row but never really first choice, yet Fonseca hopes to emerge as a surprise winner from this marathon. Contacts between the management and his entourage have never stopped.

Other candidates such as Roberto Martinez and Mark van Bommel remain standing, and the feeling is that a decision is getting closer as Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic continue to work.
