More information continues to come to light from the Prosecutor’s Office investigation into the conduct of the Curva Nord and Curva Sud, Inter and AC Milan’s ultras groups respectively.

It was announced yesterday that the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office had arrested a number of key figures from the two groups during Monday morning on charges of criminal association, and more information is now coming to light.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanPosts), the Curva Sud were making cash quite literally from the ‘thirst’ of the other fans inside the Secondo Anello Blu, which is the section that they inhabit every game behind the goal in the second tier.

One of the extortion demands involved ‘700 beers at €2 each’, particularly linked to the leader of the Curva Sud, Luca Lucci. He allegedly ‘intimidated the bar managers at the stadium’ to secure 700 beers at a total price of €1,500 per match.

What that meant is he was getting the beers at €2.14 each rather than the standard €6 that the rest of the fans are charged. The group would then resell the beers at €5 which meant they were able to profit quite a substantial amount from each sale.

Not only that, but they distributing a coloured ticket that allowed ‘privileged fans’ to skip the line and save €1 on beers. The profit of about €3 per beer went into the group’s accounts, along with other money they made on things like selling tickets.
