Milan’s strategy for the future is very clear: focus on young players but also have a few experienced ones in the team. This season, this has worked very well for them and it remains to be seen how far they can go.

During his first months at the club, CEO Ivan Gazidis was often criticised for focusing too much on young players, refusing to sign players over the age of 24. Eventually he folded, though, and it turned out to be the right decision.

When Simon Kjaer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived in January, the situation completely changed and we all know how the Rossoneri have played since. In an interview with DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Gazidis spoke about this matter.

“The successes of a club are not built only with young players, they also need elements of experience, both on the pitch and in the management. In our younger athletes, we recognize the aptitude and talent to play in a modern football.

“However, their character and personality should not be underestimated. Look at Romagnoli and Donnarumma, they have leadership and experience despite their age. In Milan there are many leaders, this is a unique value not to be missed,” he said.

Hopefully, the management will continue to work in the same way, after a rocky start between the sporting directors and the higher-ups. The current strategy has proved to work and there’s no reason to change it.
