Ekstraklasa side Górnik Zabrze announced their new coach on Thursday. Bartosch Gaul takes charge of the 14-time Polish champions, after the dismissal of Jan Urban last week.
34-year-old Gaul arrives in Zabrze highly-rated, after seven years in various roles at German club Mainz 05. He has spent the last four years in charge of the club’s second team, which finished the 2021/22 Regionalliga Sudwest campaign in 5th place. Prior to his time in Mainz, he assisted in the Schalke 04 youth setup.
Gaul’s arrival in Zabrze signifies his first job in his country of birth. He was born in the Pomeranian town of Bytów. Like the club’s striker Lukas Podolski, he too left the country with his family, for Germany, at a young age.
Górnik had earlier in the day also announced the permanent capture of Jean Jules Mvondo. The Cameroonian midfielder made his switch from Spanish side Albacete permanent, signing a two-year deal with the Trójkolorowi.
