Gian Piero Gasperini met with Atalanta chiefs today and will continue talks tomorrow, as it is increasingly likely he will sign a new contract, so Napoli turn back to Antonio Conte and Stefano Pioli.

It is absolutely no secret now that President Aurelio De Laurentiis proposed Gasperini take over at Napoli and completely revolutionise the squad along with new director Giovanni Manna.

This afternoon he met with Atalanta directors for an initial discussion, which is due to continue on Saturday.

Gasperini torn between Napoli and Atalanta

His contract in Bergamo runs to June 2025, but L’Eco di Bergamo newspaper suggest he will be offered a new deal to 2027 with a salary worth nearly €5m per season plus two big summer signings to compete in the Champions League.

Multiple sources today including Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb all note that Gasperini is now leaning towards staying with Atalanta for at least a ninth consecutive campaign.

Napoli therefore are turning back to their Plan B options, Conte and ex-Milan boss Pioli.
