Manchester United legend Gary Neville has indicated that it is becoming increasingly sad to watch Marcus Rashford play as the forward’s struggles for form continue.

Like many of his teammates, Rashford produced another below-par performance as United suffered a humiliating 3-0 at the hands of Liverpool.

A Luis Diaz brace and a strike from Mohamed Salah were all Liverpool needed to hand Erik ten Hag and his players a second consecutive Premier League loss.

Speaking on Sky Sports (via The Mail), Neville said about Rashford, “There’s no confidence. He had a one-on-one with Konate and he’s ended back up at CB.”

“The United fans aren’t going to let him get away with that. Whatever happens, you still have to go for it and take the one on one.”

“He might not be having a great day, great time, but he’s just turned back and that tells you where his head is at.”

Neville added, “It’s been going on 14 months, he scored 30 goals the season before last. I’d like to think he can get his confidence back but it’s looking like a struggle. The game doesn’t look enjoyable for him right now and that’s sad.”

“As it is seeing Casemiro in the first half, it’s sad watching that kid because he has been a joy for United at times in his career but it is getting hard work for him and hard work for fans to watch him.”

According to Neville, the manner of United’s loss vs. Liverpool will almost certainly leave the owners second-guessing whether or not they made the right choice by affording Ten Hag more time.

“Manchester United made terrible errors and Liverpool pounced on them Jurgen Klopp style, winning the ball high up the pitch and then devastating and precise.”

“Mo Salah in particular with those two passes in the first half and the finishes were fantastic and the next one was always going to be important in the second half and United didn’t get it and Liverpool did.”

The former defender further stated, “They fully deserved their victory today. It was a sobering day for Erik ten Hag and a sobering day for United’s players and I think the new ownership, sat in the stand en-masse, thinking: ‘Are we on the right path here?’”

“That’s the question they will have to ask in the next few months.”

United return to action in two weeks – after the international break – when they travel to take on Southampton.
