Gareth Bale’s time at Real Madrid is surely coming to an end.

Bale has been marginalised this season, despite many at the club hoping he would come to the fore in Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence and take on a more senior role in the squad.

A lack of Spanish, an obsession with golf and a host of injuries have seen his time in the capital be beset with problems and now it seems as if the Welshman will be leaving Santiago Bernabeu.

And a report in the local press today has tried to do Florentino Perez’s talking for him, by showing the true cost of Bale to the club.

Make no mistake, this is all part of the plan to make Bale’s departure as easy as possible for the club.

But you have to admit that the numbers involved, as reported by AS, are astonishing.

According to them – with the transfer fee and wages taken into account – Bale has cost Real Madrid €236m since his move from Tottenham in 2013.

The paper even produced this neat graphic.

If you break that down against the 102 goals he’s scored for Los Blancos, that equates to €2.3m per goal.

Again, it’s important to remember that this is all part of a media campaign to make the player’s exit as easy for Real Madrid as possible, but even so, the numbers really are extraordinary.
