Gareth Bale is closing in on a Real Madrid exit as he prepares for a return to former club Tottenham, his agent has announced.
On Tuesday night, credible reports emerged from both England and Spain that the clubs are in discussions about a move for the winger.
Speaking to AFP on Wednesday, his representative Jonathan Barnett admitted that while the deal is complicated, it is “close” to completion.
Real Madrid, as expected, are desperate to get their highest earner off the books and are pushing for him to leave on a permanent transfer, something the Bale camp would also prefer over a loan.
Talks between the clubs remain ongoing and MARCA report that Bale is expected to join on a free transfer.
Real Madrid will only receive payment for the Wales international if various performance-related bonuses are met during Bale’s time in north London.
If it does go through, it will be the second deal this summer involving these clubs with the Telegraph reporting that Sergio Reguilón will be presented as a Spurs player on Thursday.
The fee is a reported €30 million and Real will retain a buyback option for the 23-year-old as part of the deal.
