Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi is thankful to Inter Milan for their words of support after his serious knee injury.
The 31-year-old responded to the Nerazzurri’s message of support in a post on his Instagram story, via FCInterNews.
Galatasaray striker Icardi suffered a bitter blow on Thursday.
The Argentine was in the Istanbul giants’ starting eleven as they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Europa League.
However, during the match, Icardi suffered a serious injury. He ruptured his ACL.
This is just one of a series of high profile injuries of this nature in football this season.
The likes of Manchester City’s Rodri, Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal, and Juventus’s Bremer have all seen their seasons ended by ACL injuries.
As did teenage Inter midfielder Valentin Carboni, who had been on loan at Marseille for the campaign.
Icardi’s injury highlights the injury issues that are arising more and more in football.
And the 31-year-old will be a big loss for Galatasaray. He has been in outstanding goalscoring form since his arrival at the Turkish club.
Icardi has received plenty of support from within the world of football following his injury.
And there was also a special message of support from Inter.
The Nerazzurri may have parted ways with Icardi in the summer of 2019. That was when he made the move to Paris Saint-Germain.
And it was a somewhat tumultuous end for Icardi at the San Siro.
But that does not change the fact that the Argentine striker established a strong connection with the club.
Icardi made a total of 219 appearances at Inter. He scored 124 goals in the process.
Moreover, Icardi had even worn the captain’s armband for a period.
Therefore, the Nerazzurri wished Icardi the best of luck in a social media message.
And the 31-year-old thanked his former club in a post on his Instagram story. “Thanks, Inter,” he wrote. “Amala sempre!”
