Gabriel Jesus completes Arsenal switch | OneFootball

Gabriel Jesus has left Manchester City to join Arsenal on a permanent transfer.

The 25-year-old spent five-and-a-half years at the Etihad, a period which saw him win 11 major trophies, including four Premier League titles.

In total, he played 236 matches for City, scoring 95 goals.

“It’s been a pleasure to play for Manchester City,” Jesus said.

“I feel like I am a better player now than when I arrived – and to win 11 trophies has been amazing.

“My four Premier League titles are particularly special for me.

“I want to thank everyone at City – the manager, my teammates and the fans – for all the support they have given me over the past five-and-a-half years.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain added: “Gabriel is a fantastic professional and I want to thank him for what he has given Manchester City since he came here in 2017.

“His hard work and dedication to this Club cannot be questioned.

"He has been a brilliant servant and I have no doubt he will continue to be a success.”

Jesus agreed to move to Manchester from Brazilian side Palmeiras in August 2016, with City fending off interest from a host of top European clubs to secure his signature.

But he remained with Palmeiras for the remainder of the Brazilian league season and was instrumental in helping them win their first league title since 1994.

He officially joined City in January 2017 and made an immediate impact, scoring seven times in 11 matches, despite a fractured metatarsal hampering his progress.

He suffered a knee ligament injury during the 2017/18 season but still played 29 league matches as we won the Premier League title with a record 100 points.

Indeed, Jesus’ lob in injury time against Southampton on the final day sealed English football’s record points tally - a glorious goal filed alongside Paul Dickov, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan in the pantheon of thrilling, last-gasp City moments.

Jesus also picked up his first of four League Cups as we beat Arsenal 3-0 in the 2018 final at Wembley.

The following season saw City become the first side in the history of English football to win all four domestic trophies in a single campaign, with Jesus playing 47 times and scoring 21 goals in all competitions, including a Champions League hat-trick against Shakhtar Donetsk, four in a League Cup semi-final win over Burton Albion and a goal in our FA Cup final victory over Watford.

His most prolific campaign came in 2019/20, where he scored 23 goals in 53 matches as City won a third successive League Cup and finished as runners-up to Liverpool in the Premier League.

A Premier League and League Cup double followed in 2020/21 as Jesus scored 14 times in 42 games, including two in seven games as we reached our first ever Champions League final.

And just six weeks ago, he played a central role in securing our fourth Premier League title in five seasons after our dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa on the final day of the 2021/22 season.

Throughout his time at City, Jesus has won plaudits for his hard work and exceptional attitude, as well as his technical ability and instincts in the final third.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to wish Gabriel the best of luck with the remainder of his career.
