The 2021 edition of the Copa Libertadores has already proven to be special for Gabigol, overcoming Zico to become the top Flamengo goalscorer in Libertadores history.
Now he’s looking for the icing on the cake: Flamengo’s second Copa Libertadores title in three years and third overall.
“It was a feat to surpass Zico’s mark (of 16 goals). It is always remarkable, but it will be better if we are champions,” Gabigol told Conmebol.
“Breaking this record was something special, but if we don’t win the title there will all be for nothing.
“I hope to play in many more editions of the Copa Libertadores so I can increase my number of goals and continue winning more titles. This is the most important thing.”
Gabigol’s goalscoring exploits have been nothing short of sensational since his arrival, bagging 82 goals to go along with his 26 assists in just 120 games.
