Gabigol led the Brasileirão in 2018 with 18 goals in 35 matches with Santos.

West Ham were believed to be the front-runners to secure his services, however, Gabigol was not able to obtain a work permit.

The move was confirmed by Gabigol on Twitter, who is seen playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 as himself, scoring a goal for Flamengo.

The caption reads: “Hello everyone, I’m Gabriel. I already have the Flamengo shirt on, I’m part of the group. Let’s be united.”

After winning the gold medal with Brazil during the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Gabigol signed with Inter Milan for a whopping €35.5m.

Flamengo will be responsible for paying Gabigol’s €75,000-per-week wages, a fortune in Brazil.

Flamengo are also set to announce their acquisition of Georgian De Arrascaeta from Cruzeiro in the coming days.

It’s being widely reported by multiple media outlets that Flamengo will pay $R55m (€13m) for his services, which will become the largest transaction between two Brazilian clubs.

The previous record was set in 2013 when Leandro Damião moved from Internacional to Santos for R$41.6m (€10m).
