Furlani admits to director doubt and insists Milan have ‘maximum confidence’ in Conceicao | OneFootball

AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani seems to have admitted that there is a possibility a sporting director will not arrive, while affirming confidence in Sergio Conceicao.

It will be a strange night at San Siro given that Milan and Bologna face off in Serie A just days before their Coppa Italia final. That makes it feel like a bit of a dress rehearsal, but for the Rossoblu the three points on offer are huge in their quest for a Champions League places.

With the Rossoneri’s season-defining game coming in just five days, there has been a lot of talk about how Sergio Conceicao could rotate heavily. However, in the end he has chosen to make just one change from the team that faced Genoa on Monday night.

Continuity is therefore the key in the eyes of the coach, but one area that big changes are expected in is the management. Milan are looking to hire a new sporting director, and Giorgio Furlani was quizzed on where things are up to during a pre-match interview with Sky (via MilanNews).

What can you tell us about Conceicao’s future?

“As soon as he arrived he won a trophy and on Wednesday he can become the first coach since Ancelotti to win two in the same season. Now we are focused on finishing the season in the best possible way, he is working well and we have maximum confidence in him.”

How is the sporting director pursuit going?

“The last time I was asked about the sporting director, I replied that we were looking for one and that the issue was not urgency, but finding the right person. Today I answer the same way. Without urgency and not before the end of the season. If we introduce a new figure, it will be the right person.”

What were the mistakes this season?

“In a season there is not one thing, but many things that went wrong. I am not happy with how the season went, we will not be in the Champions League which is Milan’s home. The focus is to return there as soon as possible.”

Are you already working on the summer window even without a sporting director?

“Absolutely. The market starts several months in advance, we’ve been working on it for a long time. The mercato is conducted by the club, we’re not standing still.”
