Manchester City had scouts watching AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi on Sunday, with the centre-back subject to transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

The 25 year-old has been linked with a possible move away from Monaco this summer, with Manchester City potentially in the market for a new centre-back amid growing uncertainty around the future of Aymeric Laporte.

Laporte has made just 16 appearances for City so far this season and hinted at a potential departure from the Etihad Stadium with a cryptic Instagram post on Wednesday.

“After the rain, a rainbow; after a storm, the calm; and after an end, a new beginning,” was the caption to an image of the Spain defender sat in his car.

Should the defender leave this summer then City could be in the market for a replacement, and according to a Le Parisien report relayed by Get French Football News, club scouts were watching Axel Disasi this weekend.

The French central defender scored during AS Monaco’s 2-2 draw with Nantes in Ligue 1 on Sunday, opening the scoring on the 21st minute with a thumping half volley.

Disasi has scored six goals across three competitions this season and was part of the France squad which suffered defeat in the FIFA World Cup Final in December.

The centre-back has made 30 league appearances so far this season and also featured in the UEFA Europa League and Champions League qualification phases at the start of the campaign.

The Frenchman has 10 direct goal involvements in all competitions and has been of interest to Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain.

Premier League rivals Chelsea were also reportedly scouting the defender this weekend, with Disasi having previously spoken of his desire to play for a club competing in the Champions League to further his hopes of playing regularly for France.

“I’ll need to consider my future. To be called up by France, you need to play in the Champions League,” said the 25 year-old last month.

Manchester City signed central defender Manuel Akanji from Borussia Dortmund late last summer with the Swiss defender making 35 appearances including 29 starts for the Blues already this term.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also been linked with RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, who scored against the Premier League champions at the Red Bull Arena in February.
