Didier Deschamps's dealt fresh setback to Algeria officially calling up Maghnes Akliouche to the French national team for the first time on Wednesday.
The Monaco attacking midfielder who holds dual French Algerian nationality is among many players of Algerian descent born in France or elsewhere in europe who have been courted by both countries for several years.
Akliouche’s commitment to France now permanently rules out representing Algeria following trend seen with players like Man City’s rising star Rayan Cherki.
Deschamps latest squad for the upcoming international fixtures includes top names:
France'll face Ukraine in Wrocław, Poland on 5 Sept followed by clash with Iceland 4 day later.
The squad features multiple stars in contention for the 2025 Ballon d’or including Ousmane Dembele & Rayan Cherki.
